For most Indian applicants this is the most realistic permanent route: the nomination adds points and states select from their own pool rather than the national queue. The trade-off is commitment, usually two years living and working in the nominating state.

Eligibility
- Occupation on the nominating state's list and a positive skills assessment
- Under 45 at invitation, competent English or better
- At least 65 points including the 5 nomination points; many states require more
- State-specific requirements: work experience, a job offer, or ties to the state
- Commitment to live in the nominating state for at least two years
Documents from India
- Everything required for 189, plus the state's Registration of Interest or nomination application
- Evidence for state criteria: offer letters, settlement funds, residence or study history
- Commitment statement where the state requires one
